Feb 5

I'm at school all day today, but have a couple hours before I head to studio. Here's one from my shoot on Sunday, it was so cold and very clear that night, this is with the guys as we were walking on top of a train. Great view of the MPLS skyline behind, which was awesome.

more to come on this later.

I spent Monday morning, afternoon, evening, and night in the Architecture studio working on Project 1 for DF2.

Two weeks ago we were to construct with a partner a cantilever from cards, only using one deck, no adhesives, 18 inches long, and be able to hold a tennis ball. My partner Andy and I made a really solid model that hardly dipped from parallel, even with the ball at the end. After that was finished, we had to draw, diagram, and explain our model through plan, elevation, and plan oblique drawings, which ended up taking a handful of time, as these drawings typically do.

After spending the night working, laughing with everyone at almost everything, enduring the cold draft (from Kyle breaking the window with a tennis ball on Sunday), frustration, etc, I finally fell asleep on a couch in the basement at six thirty for about 45 minutes. All of the photos are a mix from Sunday and Monday

I'm at home today going through images from 3 different shoots, catching up on homework, running some errands, and relaxing. I get to spend some time with Diana tonight (finally), we're making a great dinner together.

click on it for a larger size!

Mandie is an aspiring actress and wanted some new headshots, so we used my room and a couple nearby locations from my house to shoot. I'm so happy to have shot these again for her, and look forward to doing more in the near future.

Today I shot a wedding with my friend Spencer Combs. I'm so stoked to have helped him shoot this, it was an incredible day with great weather and people, as well as beautiful places. I should be posting some pictures from that within the coming week or two, depending on time. I am working on finishing my first DF2 project for architecture for Tuesday, and it sure has been taking a ton of time to finish.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, I'm off to do a quick shoot of my friends in Your Memorial and Charis, then hanging out with my beautiful girl!

last night

a set from last night at the City of Sound CD Release Show. I did a quick shoot for Go Nutz! for a magazine in Minneapolis, but the name I can't remember at the moment. Gave me a chance to really use my new lenses and camera, and I'm really stoked about the results. More on these later, for now:

Visited the family before school starts, and my mom, sisters, and I went on a walk with Cricket. Super cold out, about -10 degrees with wind, but it was still fun!

These are with my new 5d and 16-35mm f2.8L. I'm waiting on my 50mm f1.2L which should come next week, and I'm stoked to see to use it on my upcoming shoots.

Now that I'm back from California, I am anxious for warm weather!

new work coming soon before school starts, I'm excited to show everyone!

Alex and Kirt

Kirt and Alex

I've been in California for 2 full days and only have 3 more left, but so it's been extremely awesome, considering back home we're having subzero highs and snow...

I've biked about 40 miles since I've been here, 15 my first night while it was super foggy, and then yesterday 30 miles with Austen's brother Alex and friend Kirt. I took some shots of the two as you can see above. I shot them with a MF 50mm 1.4, which I bought for a couple hundred bucks from Austen's work. It pains me to buy new equipment right before I upgrade everything, but it will work out fine as I've decided to wait on the 5d mark II and go with the standard 5d. Reason for my decision could be obvious: Austen is getting me a killer deal on a body with grip, saving me almost 2k, so I'll be putting the leftover amount to another solid lens, more on that when I have the equipment.

Today we spent the entire afternoon in Half Moon Bay and Big Basin Redwoods Park. We relaxed on the beach, took some good shots, and our drive to Big Basin was incredible going 40 mph down a 4 meter wide road hugged by cliffs and trees :O Great weather and good music made the day perfect. You should expect to see some of the images online within the next few days. Here's a clip from the beach:

Tomorrow we're going to be up semi-early to eat breakfast and catch the BART with or bikes over to Frisco. We'll be biking downtown all day so I'm stoked to get some good shots and bike some new terrain (omg hillzzzz). If you want to get an idea what it will be like, check out this video:

I'm in the process of finally working on and finishing my website (I swear it's for real this time) and preparing for the upcoming projects I have at the end of the month into February.

2009 is already shaping up to be a great year.

Sing It Loud
Sing It Loud, Epitaph Records, Aug 2008

Now that I'm finally home for the holidays, I've had a chance to catch up on work from the past few weeks and even go back through all the projects I worked on and find images I always liked but never released.

I'm currently finishing up some family photos, work for the Simley Track Team, and Trace The Skyline and looking forward to the many projects planned for 2009, my trip to California, new business cards, a new website (finally), and whole lot more. I've been blessed this year and fortunate to meet so many people and learn so many new things so it's safe to say I'm excited to see what 2009 has in store.

I'll be releasing a whole crop of new images on the web in the next couple days, ahead of my new website and a couple of other secret events; here are a couple to preview:

Simley Track Team

Minneapolis

It's been a couple weeks since I posted. Finals are over with after tomorrow, except I still have a 10 page paper to turn in on wednesday. It's been blistering cold here in the state of Minnesota lately, reaching a -20 degrees windchill yesterday and probably again tonight. I've had a few shoots as well and still have a couple more booked before the end of the year. I'm also leaving for the west coast to hangout with my friend Austen for a couple days in January, which I can't wait for.

2 things to do:
a)check out my friend Spencer's work, he just did a shoot with Steve Moakler and is going to take over in the coming months. flickr.com/spencer-combs | spencer-combs.com

b)check out my gallery on the front page of Photography Served (sister site to Behance)

more word on the new website and projects in the coming days, I need to get back to studying.
